These Guys Need to Be on Your Radar Right Now

Here are three names you should be targeting this week.

Jac Caglianone — Add Him Before He's Gone

This kid is doing something real. Caglianone has been one of the more exciting young bats to emerge this season, and if he's sitting on your waiver wire at more than 50% availability, your league is sleeping. Young players breaking out mid-season often get dismissed as hot streaks — don't make that mistake here.

The plate approach is what stands out. He's taking more pitches and swinging and missing less. He's also hitting .277 with 14 home runs and a .847 OPS through 74 games, and his 17% barrel rate and 93.9 mph average exit velocity tell you the power is real. He's also making hard contact consistently, and that tends to stick. Guys who hit the ball this well at this age usually aren't going away. The surface stats are earning him real at-bats, which means the counting numbers are going to keep coming.

Grab him now in all formats. If he keeps this up through July, he'll be owned everywhere.

Nick Pivetta — Buy Low Before He Returns

Pivetta has been on the shelf, but he's reportedly nearing a return. This is exactly the window you want to strike. Guys coming back from injury are almost always undervalued on the wire because fantasy managers are skittish about health risk — use that to your advantage.

When Pivetta is healthy and locked in, he's a legitimate SP3 with upside. His stuff plays, and he can miss bats. The innings will be worth rostering even if you have to stash him for another week or two.

In deeper leagues this is a no-brainer stash right now. In 12-teamers, keep a close eye on his activation timeline and be ready to add the moment he's cleared to start.

Blaze Alexander — He Is Absolutely Mashing

Alexander has been raking, and at this point you can't keep explaining it away. Some guys just get an opportunity and run with it — that's what's happening here.

The contact numbers have been the headline. He's hitting .310 with an .804 OPS and has chipped in 8 stolen bases to go with it — that speed-average combo is rare to findin fantasy. His xBA sits at .304 and his xSLG is .453, so this isn't a fluke driven by soft contact and good luck. Middle infield eligibility makes him even more valuable since those spots are always thin in fantasy.

If you need a second baseman or shortstop and he's available, stop reading and go add him. Seriously. The window on getting Blaze Alexander cheap is closing fast.
